Conventionally located in the heart of downtown Ottawa, Hyatt opened its first luxury boutique hotel in Ottawa, the Andaz Ottawa Byward Market. The 200 room hotel is surrounded by restaurants and shopping and a short walk from the National Gallery of Canada, the Rideau Canal, the Rideau Center shopping center and the Parliament Buildings.
Just off of the lobby is the main restaurants Feast + Revel, which Executive Chef Stephen La Salle described as a New Canadian cuisine with an emphasis on local products. The theme of modern Canadiana continues in the hotel with copper accents used throughout the hotel that refer to Ottawa’s Parliament Buildings famous for their copper roofs which are just a few blocks away, to overhead in the mixed Canadian-wood light installation made from Toronto-based furniture marker furniture marker Hollis + Morris, and the art curated by the Canadian Council Art Bank that provided contemporary Canadian art.
Upon arriving at the hotel you will find a sleek non-traditional check-in counter where are you are invited to relax in the lounge with a complimentary glass of wine, and are given a tablet to check-in to the hotel.
The Guest Rooms
The guest rooms have a minimal design with neutral colors, with floor to ceiling window, and plush comfortable bed. When staying at the Andaz in Ottawa, make sure to request one of the rooms with a view of the Byward Market as you will be rewarded with floor to ceiling windows that look onto Ottawa’s main landmark the Parliament Buildings.

The rooms also offer 50 inch TVs, walk-in closets, robes and slippers, and complimentary wireless internet.
Unlike traditional hotel minibars, the Andaz provides local non-alcoholic drinks and snacks in the room complimentary such as Tawse Wine (2016 Canadian winery of the year), Hummingbird Chocolate (won best bean-to-bar chocolate in the world), Harvey & Vern’s sodas, HoneyBars along with other treats and beverages.
The bright and airy bathrooms offer a rain shower.
The Presidential Suite
For those looking for the ultimate luxurious hotel stay while in Ottawa, the Andaz has a giant Presidential Suite with a private balcony, living room, dining room, kitchenette, along with a private service entrance for catering that makes the suite perfect for guests wishing to entertain guests.
The giant bedroom has a wall of windows that gives you an outstanding view of the Parliament Buildings while relaxing in bed, along with an entrance to the balcony should you wish to relax outside instead on the patio lounge chairs.
I was dazzled by the size of the walk-in closet, which is huge and offers so much closet space that it would be a challenge for even a fashionista to fill all the closet space.
The bathroom is perfection, with modern white finishings contrasted with the stone and gold accents is luxurious, and a heavenly deep soaker tub with a view of downtown Ottawa is heavenly.
Feast + Revel
On the main floor of the hotel, you can find Feast + Revel, the hotel’s signature farm-to-table restaurant which offers new Canadian cuisine. Perfect for lunch or dinner, you can sit at the large table perfect for parties, booth seats, or my personal favorite option sitting at the counter where you can watch Executive Chef Stephen La Salle and the other talented chefs cook.
Feast and Reveal also offers an all day bar that also offers coffee and pastries for those looking for a snack.
Copper Spirits And Sights
On the 16th floor is Copper Spirits and Lounge, the rooftop lounge which has the best views of downtown Ottawa and is one my favorite spots for brunch.
In addition to the interior section, there is a luxurious outdoor patio, which is Ottawa’s tallest rooftop bar. Grabbing a seating on of the large cabanas, or the lounge seating is the perfect spot for an evening cocktail while watching the sunset. To help keep you warm while things get cool, there are several firepits around the patio.
I adore the new Andaz hotel here in Ottawa, and I’m excited to see boutique hotels arriving in Ottawa that focuses on modern design as those are hotels I seek when I travel. As an Ottawa local I’m excited to try Feast + Reveal for dinner, and I know without question Copper Spirits And Sights will be one of my local hangout spots on warmer days as the cocktails, view of the city and decor is spectacular.
