Several years ago the Kronut, a combination between a croissant and a donut became a viral pastry that took the world by storm when it was introduced in New York City. Similar to the Kruffin a croissant and a muffin which can be found at Mr. Holmes Bakeshop in San Francisco, a Kronut is a buttery and flaky pastry but in a donut-shaped and decorated with icing or fillings as you would expect on a donut.
In Ottawa, you can try this delicious viennoiserie at Art Is In Bakery which makes a variety of different types of Kronuts, and on Thursdays, they feature a “crazy Kronut” where the pastry chefs create extra special kronuts.
Located in Hintonburg, Kevin Mathieson the head pastry chef and co-owner baked goods have been featured on Food Network’s You Gotta Eat Here. The interior of the bakery offers plenty of seating, but be warned for Sunday brunch (9am – 2pm) it can get very crowded.

In addition to the Kronuts, Art Is In Bakery also offers a diverse range of loaves of bread, scones, macarons, pastries, sandwiches and other delicious baked goods. When visiting I suggest having a kronut and purchasing their rosemary sourdough bread to bring home which is simply outstanding.
If you haven’t already you need to visit Art Is In Bakery which is one of the best bakeries in Ottawa.
