As someone who loves dark chocolate, I was excited to be invited to try the new Cacao 70 Eatery in Gatineau. The new location which opened June 22nd is inside Les Promenades Gatineau mall.
The Quebec based chocolatier Cacao 70, has 3 concept restaurants Eatery which focuses on brunch, lunch and chocolate-based sweets, Sweet House that offers chocolate drinks, desserts and all-day brunch, and The Dippery which makes chocolate-dipped ice cream cones. Also if you happen to be in Montreal you can visit their factory to see where the chocolate is made.
The new Cacao 70 Eatery offers a new menu, with different options such as a Mediterranean frittata, a variety of new sharing plates that all looked outstanding and 4 flavors of fondue (matcha, Earl Grey, Coffee and Peanut Butter) which I need to return to try.
Aiming to get my chocolate fill, I opted for the Cacao 70 signature mocha which I had made with dark chocolate. The drink isn’t overly sweet but the rich chocolate from the Montreal factory creates a delicious hot beverage that you need to try.
I’m all for the sharing plates trend at restaurants, and Cacao 70 has a number of options to pick from. Opting to try some of everything I ordered the Bring It All sharing plate which says it is for two or more and it easily would have been enough to share for up to 6 people with the generous portion size. The sharing plate I ordered came with slices of triple chocolate pizza, fresh soft waffles, chocolate wafers, fresh fruit (strawberries, bananas, pineapples), brownie bites, two small cocoa drinks, two small bowls of chocolate drizzled vanilla ice cream, a chocolate fondue pot, marshmallows and a small grill!
The sharing plates are so fun and would make a great date night or girls night activity! I loved dipping all the various fruits and brownies in the super-rich chocolate fondue.

For all you city folk, that year for roasted marshmallows the sharing plates with the small grill gives you the same fun experience of roasting marshmallows without needing to head to the cottage. Trust me you need to try ordering one of the trays with the small roasting grill and make yourself some s’mores!
I can’t praise this new concept Cacao 70 enough, you NEED to go try it!
