Visiting The Cliffs of Moher

Along the Wild Atlantic Way in Ireland, is The Cliffs of Moher, situated on the coast of County Clare. The 12.8 km (8 miles) long stretch of cliffs is the steepest in all of Ireland with some of the cliffs being 214 meters (702 feet) tall.  You might recognize the long stretch of cliffs which has been used as a filming location for several movies including The Princess Bride and Harry Potter & The Half-Blood Prince.  After having an amazing time at the most popular tourist attraction in Ireland, I was excited to visit the second most popular tourist attraction, The Cliffs of Moher.

Since the Cliffs Of Moher is such a popular tourist attraction, it is easy to find as there are plenty of signs on the roads nearby. The Cliffs also offer a huge parking lot, and visitor center with food and shops to explore. There is a small 6 euro entrance fee, which

From the tourist center (in the photo above on the far right) to the tower (in the photo on the left) is the destinated tourist paths with sturdy walls and a paved pathway that allow for a nice view of The Cliffs of Moher, and is very family friendly as it is all very safe because of the high walls. The best photo locations would be by the tower.

Here is an example of the sturdy stone walls and paved walkway on the destinated Cliffs of Moher tourist paths.

The 3 photos of warning signs, are just some of the many signs warning not to go past these walls, as afterward there is nothing stopping you from falling down the cliffs. Between frequent landslides and very strong winds, it is extremely dangerous to go past the walls. So with that said, I did climb over the walls to walk more of the coastal walk, but do not try this with children, or without proper shoes as I don’t want anyone getting hurt.

Initially a bit past the tourist area there are odd stone walls that help to prevent people from falling, but that does not last long before it is just dirt and a cliff straight down.

The scenery along the cliffs, either on the official path or not is spellbinding with nothing but water and jagged cliffs for as far as you can see. When planning when to visit the Cliffs of Moher, it is best to allow some flexibility in your schedule as to when you visit to avoid fog or strong winds to best enjoy your time.
