One of the biggest challenges I’ve faced while travelling is bringing my DSLR camera near the water, such as for a day at the pool or when I’m vacationing by the beach as I don’t want to risk getting the camera wet.
So I recently decided to test out the affordable ELE 4K Ultra HD WiFi action camera as a more affordable option to a GoPro Hero4 Black or Silver.
The waterproof 4K action camera comes with the waterproof casing along with a variety of different attachments giving you the flexibility on how to attach the camera when doing sports.
Operating the camera is fairly simple, the power button is on the front which also allows you to change the mode, from video to photograph or to access the menu and the top button is used to start filming or to take a picture.
On a full battery, the camera lasted nearly 2 hours, so it is important to set up the camera’s battery saving mode to help preserve the battery if you plan on spending an entire day outdoors.
To begin filming all you will need to do is interest a micro SD camera and it is ready to use.
While playing around in the pool this action camera was perfect, as within the case the camera is waterproof up to 30 meters.
One of the challenges is using the camera while in the waterproof case as you sometimes needed to really push down hard to get the camera to work which was sometimes hard to do if your hands are wet from using the camera in a pool. It was also tricky to see the screen outdoors at times as there could be a lot of glare on the screen, especially in the waterproof casing.
Small challenges aside, for the low price of under $100 this tiny and lightweight action camera films 4K video at 15 fps and has a great 170-degree lens that allows you to get the entire scene in your photograph with the wide lens.
After several trips and testing this camera, I was impressed with how vivid the colours were. Above is a still from one of the short videos I filmed while at Mont Tremblant where you can see the impressive detail from the action camera.
As you can see from the video the quality is great for the price, making the ELE 4K Ultra HD a great starter action camera for those who do not need some of the additional functions that come with the GoPro cameras such as a more diverse range of mounts such as the 3-way selfie stick or its own video editing program. I’m certainly eager to test this camera against the GoPro Silver which also promises the same 4K 15 FTP video and 12 MP photos but for $559.00, meaning this camera is currently over $450.00 cheaper.
Overall I’m very pleased with the film results of this camera, which will be one I’m certain to use in my future travels.
