Discover Japan Through Snacks With Snakku

Japanese food is one of my favorite cuisine types, and after moving to Canada after living in Japan for a year I often find myself missing Japanese snacks. Snakku a monthly Japanese snack subscription box is perfect for those who are curious about Japan and Japanese cuisine or already love Japanese food.

How Snakku works is it will send you authentic Japanese snacks direct from Japan. Each month there is a different theme to the snacks from a holiday, a type of snack or a region of Japan. The signature Snakku box comes with 20-25 seasonal snacks which are beautifully wrapped with a reusable washi furoshiki (a Japanese patterned cloth that is used to transport clothes, gifts, or other goods).

The box I got had the theme of autumn and had 10 different types of snacks in the box which were clearly labeled on the information card. My kit included pumpkin pudding KitKat, autumn Tokyo rusks which is a crispy baguette, kuri senbei a rice cracker that is made near Mount Fuji for the past 100 years, packs of 8 different types of rice crackers, pumpkin bauum a multi-layer cake from Hokkaido made to look like a pumpkin, pumpkin okaki a rice cracker with pumpkin seeds, caramel corn, kabocha collon a pumpkin cream version of the popular collon cookies, and temari candy.

All the snacks I had were amazing, but the tenohira irodori – or packages of flavored rice crackers would have to be my favorite. When I lived in Japan, I would eat them all the time, and the assorted flavors of black sesame, sweet plum, cheese, seaweed, or chili pepper were the perfect crunchy snack. While I loved everything in the box, my next 2 faovrites would have to be the pumpkin cake from Hokkaido which is moist and not too sweet, and the pumpkin pudding KitKats as I have fond memories of when I used to collect all the different Japanese flavored KitKats found in different regions of Japan (or released at different times of the year).

Snakku comes with so many snacks in the box that there is plenty to share with your family and friend. Meeting up with several of my friends who I met while living in Japan we all filled with joy while eating some of our favorite treats.

Snakku makes the perfect gift for travelers, or anyone who loves Japan and for $38.95 per box you will get nearly 1lb of snacks sent to your home each month. Order your Snakku box.
