I’ve long been intrigued by Korean food and culture, so I was overjoyed when my Korean Snacks Box arrived yesterday. The box is filled with assorted Korean snacks and beautifully packaged in a Bokjumeoni (복주머니) silk bag – a traditional Korean coin purse. Bokjumeoni means “lucky pocket” and is said to bring good fortune to the person who is using it or receiving it.
When ordering your Korean Snacks Box you have the option to either sign up for a monthly subscription or select a one time purchase themed box. The themed boxes are between $14.95-18.95, and the subscription box is $16.95 for the regular box (8-10 Korean snacks) or $25.95+ for the large box (15-20 snacks and recommended for 2-3 people).
My Korean Snacks Box was the Pepero Day themed box. Pepero Day is celebrated on November 11, and is similar to Valentine’s Day, where people give boxes of chocolate dipped Pepero to loved one or friends. While the origin of the holiday is unknown, Pepero Day is held on 11/11 as it is believed the snacks resemble the number 1.
Inside My Korean Snacks Box
- Pepero Vanilla Black Cookie Box
- Classic Pepero Box
- Almond Pepero Box
- Real Brownies
- Orion Choco Pies
- Lotte Strawberry Candies
- Bokjumeoni Bag
Pepero is similar to Japanese Pocky, a not too sweet, crunch stick covered in chocolate and sometimes other toppings such as nuts or candies. Each of the Pepero boxes came with several Pepero inside which made them perfect to share.
Also within the Korean Snacks Box were 6 Lotte Strawberry candies which are soft and chewy, along with 3 packages of Real Brownie which are a popular chocolate treat in Korea.
Finally, within the Korean Snacks Box, there were 3 packages of Orion Choco Pie which are considered Korea’s national snack. A choco pie is a marshmallow filled cake covered in chocolate.
Overall I found the Korean Snacks Box to be wonderfully put together. I appreciated how beautiful packaging, and how the box had an information sheet to explain the theme and how each item related to the theme and gave further information about Korean culture and food.
