If you are looking for a delicious French bakery, you need to visit Les Moulins La Fayette in Ottawa. Located in Hintonburg, the bakery opened in 2018 on the main floor of a new condo building.
Les Moulins La Fayette in Ottawa is the 20th location of the chain bakery, with most of the locations being in Quebec, but there is also two in Toronto and one in Miami.
The Ottawa location is an industrial space that offers freshly baked loaves of bread, pastries, pies, Viennoiseries, and cakes. Inside there is some seating so you can order a cup of coffee, and savor your fresh bread or cake. Within the store you’ll find all the classic French baked goods you would expect such as baguettes, butter croissant, and Opera cake. If you are looking for a full-size cake, there is also several always ready to take home, which is perfect for last minute dinner parties.
Throughout the year there is also new featured items on the menu. When I visited, it was leading up to Christmas, so the new yule logs just launched. Available in both regular size, and individual portions I ordered 3 of the smaller versions.
The first was a 3 chocolate mini logo with dark chocolate, milk chocolate mousse and white chocolate, the next a red berries and cheese mini log and the last a strawberry St-Honoré log. All three were terrific, and by far the best yule logs I’ve ever tasted. Inside the bakery, they also had a diverse assortment of macarons, and unable to resist I ordered the chocolate and coffee which were extraordinary.
