I finally got around to checking out Ottawa’s newest donut show Maverick’s Donuts which is owned by 5 local businessmen. Maverick’s Donuts makes a variety of specialty cake doughnuts, but one of the special features of this restaurant is the ability to make your own donut!
When making your own custom donut you get to pick your icing you’d like (chocolate, maple, vanilla, and caramel) along with the topping (sprinkles, Skor, Reese’s Pieces, Kit Kat, peanuts, M&Ms, Fruit Loops, Oreo cookie crumb, sea salt, and marshmallows).
There also are a variety of signature donuts to pick from including wake’n bacon (bacon with maple icing), cherry cheesecake (cherry glaze over cream cheese filling), chocoholic (chocolate donut with chocolate glaze), PB & J (peanut butter and jam filled), crème brûlée (pastry cream brûlée sugar), and lemon ricotta (lemon filling with citrus glaze). When I visited Maverick’s Donuts there also happened to be a special red wine and blueberry donut too!

For those seeking a more classic donut, there is also a plain glazed donut or one covered in powdered sugar and cinnamon.
The interior offers a modern streamlined decor with an open kitchen, and there are a few small cafe tables to sit at.
When it comes to locally made donuts Mavericks Donuts offers plenty of delicious and interesting flavour combinations. In comparison to Suzy Q, many of the donuts are cake donuts instead of yeast which makes for a more dense donut. Though the battle between yeast and cake donuts can be left to personal taste.
