Miruku in Ottawa specializes in Japanese-style desserts and milk teas. Miruku, whose name means milk in Japanese, is a new small business that primarily focuses on online orders but also offers a weekly pop-up dessert lounge on Sundays from 2:30 pm – 8:00 pm at 318 Rideau Street. If you are unable to make the pop-up you can also order online and have your desserts either delivered to your home, or they can be picked up at one of the 2-weekday pickup locations (1280 Baseline Road or 22 Marche Way).
Currently, Miruku offers two milk teas, Royal black milk tea which is made with black tea and milk, or banana black milk tea. You can also order a variety of caramel candies in Early Grey milk, vanilla sea salt, yuzu citrus, red bean and pumpkin spice.
Additionally, they have two small cube cakes that you can order, either apple cinnamon crumble or fresh orange and dark chocolate cake.
Miruku is a great addition to the Ottawa dessert scene. While I’d love to see them offering more traditional Japanese flavours (such as a green tea Madeline or red bean cake), the desserts were all delicious, affordable and delightfully not overly sweet. The real gem is the Miruku drinks which I highly recommend ordering. If you are looking to sample a little bit of all their desserts, order the gift boxes which have a variety of desserts for $20.00.
