There is no shortage of fantastic ice cream shops in Ottawa, but Moo Shu Ice Cream scoops up unique flavours you can’t find anywhere else. What makes this restaurant different is many of the flavours on the menu are Asian-inspired.
As someone who lived in Japan and travelled all over Asian, I’m hooked on Asain cuisine. While I still can’t get enough of classic flavours, my taste buds rejoice whenever I get a cone at Moo Shu Ice Cream.
If you love to try new foods or will do a happy dance if someone gives you milk bread (like myself), you need to try them.
The menu changes often, so you can always find something new. Some of the options include milk bread, matcha, Vietnamese coffee, Hong Kong milk tea, and black sesame.
Right now, they are offering limited deliveries in Ottawa, or you can schedule a contactless pickup.
As we enjoy gorgeous summertime weather, the demand is high on this small-batch producer. So you will want to check their website to see when they update their stocklist and order that day. Otherwise, you might find everything is sold out.
Typically the schedule is Tuesday, Thursday and Sunday at 8 pm. They restock ice cream, while the vegan options are restocked Monday and Friday at 10 pm. If there is a change to the schedule, it will be posted on the website or their Instagram account @mooshuicecream.
When I ordered, most of the Asian flavours weren’t available, but I did get my hands on the rhubarb ginger.
It was rich and creamy and not too sweet. The flavour is remarkably bold, with a tart rhubarb and spicy ginger taste. I love ginger, and found the ginger flavour to be very strong. So if you aren’t into ginger this might not be the one for you.
