Expanding from the initial tiny take-out location in Orleans, Occo Kitchen second location also in Orleans offers ample seating for up to 200 people and a larger menu.
Occo Kitchen, focuses on freshly made products, and right when you enter the restaurant you can see a massive machine making taco shells for all the tacos served.
While Occo Kitchen does offer a vast range of local beers, the cocktails are also outstanding. I highly recommend the Orleans Sour, their version of a whiskey sour which is one of the best whiskey sours I’ve had in Ottawa.
Appetizers cost $5.50 -16, mains $14-20, and the tacos are $6.50-7.50. I’ve been going to Occo Kitchen for a long time when I’m in Orleans and find their tacos are hard to beat. The tacos are huge and filled with bold flavor. When ordering I suggest getting 2-3 tacos depending on how hungry you are.
I’ve tried all the tacos on the menu, such as the braised pork shoulder taco, crispy fish taco, chicken club, braised pork belly, sweet potato tempura, and smoked beef brisket and they are all wonderful. When ordering I suggest trying the chicken club taco which has candied bacon, chipotle lime mayo, jalapeno, cherry tomatoes and mini peppers, the crispy fish taco with beer battered cod, mango, jalapeno, cherry tomatoes, and caperberry cream, and the sweet potato tempura taco which is topped with mango, edamame, sweet peppers, and wasabi mayo.
If you happen to be in Orleans, Mark Steele’s Occo Kitchen is certainly worth a visit for a casual dining environment where you can have some delicious food.
