Sure you have Netflix for your TV shows, but did you know there is Scribd for books? If you are anything like me when you travel you have tons of books in your carry-on bag to entertain you when you are waiting at the airport, or to enjoy while you soak up with the sun at the beach.
At the rate, I read books it quickly has become expensive as even ebook (which are more affordable than paperback versions) are often around $9-12 each.
In the past few weeks, I discovered Scribd, which is the Netflix for books. For $8.99 a month you get unlimited access to all their books, audiobooks, and magazines. If you read more than two books a month, this service provides enormous savings. Each month read on average 4-5 books, so the extra ~$27-36 I save per month is equal to over $320 a year.
As a traveler, Scribd provides an impressive amount of travel books that will be perfect for you to plan your next vacation. All the major travel guides are available, for example, there are 407 Lonely Planet books, 240 Rough Guides books, along with 134 Fodor’s Travel Guides books are currently available.
Within Scribd, they also make it simple to find travel books based upon a destination. For example, you can click on a category such as North America, Africa, Asia, Australia, Europe to find tons of useful travel guides.
Of course, Scribd doesn’t just have travel books. You can find most new release books, and can easily search by categories. So if you are looking for a New York Time best seller, a fantasy novel, or a steamy romance book they are all there too.
Scribd also has an app for Android and Apple devices which is perfect for when you are traveling. On the app, you can read your ebooks, or listen to audiobooks. While usually, the app uses wi-fi for the books, within the app you can download books or audiobooks in advance to enjoy while you are on your flight or anywhere else in the globe where you might have limited wifi access.
So far I’ve loved my experience with Scribd, and I’ve been listening to audiobooks non-stop. I’m excited about the service and hope you enjoy it as much as I do.
