This year Ottawa has several new Asian dessert shops opening, including Harajuku Crepe, Uji Cafe, and the newest addition Sugar Marmalade. Sugar Marmalade recently opened on Rideau Street and offers a taste of Hong Kong with fusion dishes.
Located in Toronto, North York, Markham, Waterloo, Mississauga, Hamilton, London, Scarborough, and Montreal the newest location in Ottawa offers a massive menu of desserts and some savoury dishes. For those with a sweet-tooth, you can order a variety of dishes including parfaits, pannacotta, crepes, soy desserts, cheesecake, soy desserts, black pearl dishes.
My friends and I tried the Taiwanese shaved ice which had green tea and red bean which was beautifully presented and was very refreshing.
The second dish was a chocolate egg waffle, which was topped with chocolate ice cream and chocolate chips.
The last dish ordered was a green tea parfait which giant. The dish was delightfully not overly sweet and is a great dish to order this summer. This dish was my personal favourite out of the 3, and the black sesame version looks equally delicious and would be the dish I would order the next time I visit.
Ever since opening Sugar Marmalade has steadily had a cue of people waiting to get into the restaurant on Rideau Street in Ottawa. The casual restaurant’s chalkboard decor and the massive dessert menu is sure to charm visitors. When I visited the service was very slow, and it was often difficult to get support from the staff working there. Hopefully, customer service will improve as the food is a welcome addition.
