Opening in May this year, Sundae School is a new ice cream shop in Ottawa that opened in Beechwood. Lindsay Taub decided to create a spot for locals to indulge in a sweet treat and the result was Sundae School an ice cream shop that offers a variety of ice cream sundaes.
Sundae School has a casual modern decor that feels a bit like a classroom with even a blackboard where people can draw. The shop offers plenty of indoor seating, but when the weather is nice, it is worth heading outside to one of the outdoor patio tables to enjoy the warmer weather.
Sundae School offers lots of fun options, such as ice cream cones of their homemade ice cream, but the real gem is the sundaes. Flavors include Recess Pieces, chocolate fudge Chalk-olate Board, Class Clown that combines nerd ice and candy, Pep Rally which is mint ice cream and After Eight, Pop Quiz which has popcorn and salted caramel, Snow Day, that has coconut ice cream and fudge or Class Pet that has chocolate Turtles.
Opting for the Pep Rally I ordered the “mini” size which is actually a very large sundae. It consisted of two scoops of mint ice cream topped with chocolate fudge and pieces of After Eight chocolate crumbled on top.
I also got to try some of the Recess Pieces sundae which has vanilla ice cream with mni Recess Pieces candies on top, chocolate, and peanut butter sauce. Both were amazing, while Pep Rally was minty and refreshing, Recess Pieces was filled with chocolate and peanut butter candy that is sure to please peanut butter lovers. For me the mini was way too large, next time I’ll plan to split one but the generous portions are sure to make any ice cream lover smile.
If you are in the mood for ice cream this summer, Sundae School is certainly worth visiting.
