The Casino Lac-Leamy’s Sound of Light

The Casino Lac-Leamy’s Sound of Light this year is having a special Canada150 edition from August 5-19th. Over 5 nights the Casino Lac-Leamy Sound of Light will have 5 outstanding firework displays over the Ottawa River.

The theme for each night is:

Ontario – Saturday, August 5
Manitoba – Wednesday, August 9
Quebec – Saturday, August 15
Alberta – Wednesday, August 16
Grand Finale – Saturday, August 19

For the show you have several options, general admission is $10, reserved seats is $25, and the National Bank Gourmet Evening is $105 per show and includes a 3 course meal, parking pass and reserved seats for the fireworks show. The event takes places at the Canadian Museum of History with the site opening at 6 pm, and the fireworks display is at 9:15 pm.

This year I was invited by Les Grands Feux du Casino du Lac-Leamy to experience their National Bank Gourmet experience in the Canadian Museum of History’s Grand Hall this past Saturday. The menu of the event was designed around the Ontario theme, so Ontario produce was highlighted throughout the 3 course meal. The meal started with roasted vine ripened Ontario tomatoes with mozzarella salad. The entree was an ice wine brined Ontario chicken breast served with Tarragon Sauce, bread pudding and market vegetables and for dessert, there was an Ontario peach clay pot. The meal was my first time dining in the beautiful Museum of Canadian History and the food was delicious, in particular, the chicken breast which was expertly cooked and the savory bread pudding which was outstanding.

After the meal, I was guided to my reserved seat which was directly in front of the Ottawa River giving me a prime view of the fireworks. This was my first time with reserved seats, and there is no way I would experience the event without them as it is much easier than bringing blankets or chairs to sit on, and I ended up with a much better view.

The firework show was set to a Canadian soundtrack of Man I Feel Like A Woman by Shania Twain, Raise A Little Hell by Trooper, The Hockey Theme by Neil Pert, Sunny Days by Lighthouse, I Will Remember You by Sarah McLachlan, Come Fly With Me by Michael Buble and Call Me Maybe by Carly Rae Jepson.

The firework show lasted approximately 30 minutes and was beautifully done. Each year watching The Casino Lac-Leamy’s Sound of Light is a tradition of mine, and this year I’me extra excited to watch the patriotically themed shows throughout August. If you haven’t already make sure to purchase your tickets for the event.
