My new addition is suc-CUTE-lent. You don’t need to have a green thumb to add some plants to your home. The Urban Botanist in Ottawa sells fantastic DIY kits perfect for those of you looking for something fun to do at home.
They currently sell several DIY kits, including a terrarium, moss frame, and mushroom growing set that ranges from $30 to $85. The sets ship Canada-wide and take two days to ship.
As someone who loves DIY project, and consider herself a plant lady, I was so excited to test out one of their at-home projects.
I got the DIY terrarium kit, which included a glass vase, plant, soil, gravel, charcoal, moss, decorative stones and instructions.
I love the idea of doing one of the DIY projects as a fun way to connect remotely with friends. Each of you can order a box and then use Zoom to showcase your creation at the end.
The process is straightforward and is something anyone could do. You begin by placing the gravel and charcoal, then layer the soil on top.
Next, you add the small plant and finally get to the creative part – decorating. It comes with several colours of moss and stones in all colours that you can use to enhance your planter.
I found the process very relaxing, and I enjoyed how I ended up with something to decorate my home.
I’m also interested in trying some of their virtual workshops. For these, you get a list of materials you need to purchase and follow along with the teacher. The classes have lots of fun options, but I’m particularly interested in the moss frame and Christmas wreath.
