Have you tried playing a virtual reality game yet? Canada’s first multiplayer virtual reality escape room game, De-Composed opened earlier this summer at Room Escape Ottawa (the same place that offers Archery Games) and I had the pleasure to recently test it out.
In De-Composed you have up to 6 people working together as a team to escape the haunted mansion. Each player is seated for the entire game in a comfortable chair that can swivel and is given an Oculus Rift, along with noise-cancelling headphones that have a mic.

De-Composed is designed for people who have never played virtual reality games before, so the mechanics are very simple and easy to learn. The two controllers track your hand movement, and there is one button to press to pick something up or interact with an object (ie, push a button), and another button that you can use to select a location on the floor to be transported there.

The concept of the escape room is your team is turned into a ghost, and you need to explore the haunted mansion to try to return back to your human form.
“You and your friends have been invited to a private concert of newly discovered music by the brilliant and demented composer, Hans Komisch, recently deceased. This is a one-of-a-kind opportunity to venture into the realm of true genius and discover the madness behind the music. Upon entering his mansion, you realize that the invitation was a trap… you have all been transformed into ghosts! Your souls will serve as the crucial pieces to his final opus. You must defeat the inner workings of his mansion and his mind so you can recover your human forms before they get completely… DE-COMPOSED!” – Room Escape Ottawa
Within the game, you will need to interact with each other using the mics, and you will be able to see everyone’s ghostly avatar represented by a different color. Working together you will have to uncover clues and solve puzzles in order to escape.
If you are interested in trying the virtual reality escape room, you can book your one-hour time slot in Room Escape Ottawa, and it costs $24 per person to play. De-Composed is the first virtual escape room in Room Escape Ottawa, but another new room is currently under development in addition to a restaurant and bar which will be in the same complex.
