Volta by Cirque du Soleil plays homage to extreme sports to tell an inspirational story about the freedom to choose your own future. Volta which means a change in direction tells the story of Waz a celebrity game show host with blue feathered hair who has lost touch with himself in the pursuit of fame but eventually finds the courage to embrace and express his true self.
Unlike many of Cirque du Soleil shows, Volta story showcases the mundane moments of life, such as being glued to their phones and competition TV shows to create a relatable story with breathtaking tricks including BMX bikes, swiss rings, rope skipping and acrobatic ladders.

The electronic pop musical score creates the perfect backdrop for the production and was composed by Anthony Gonzalez from M83’s served as the musical director for Cirque du Soleil Volta.
I adored the show and found myself spellbound, in particular, when a woman hangs from her hair and Waz who hangs from a lamp truly stood out for me. In sharp contrast to the BMX bikes, the strength and fluidity of Waz’s contemporary dance was spectacular.
Volta will be under the Big Top at Zibi Site from August 3-27 2017 and is a show not to be missed. Tickets start at $39.
